Our project 'improvement of the therapy of diabetes mellitus' aims to implement the transplantation of beta-cells of the pancreas in addition to whole pancreas transplantation into our clinical practice. This work focusses the further improvement of beta-cell isolation technics, the further improvement of theinvitro culture of islets, the preservation of islets before transplantation as well as islet transplantation technics.

In contrast to activities of the development of extracorporal or implantable hybrid devices, our aim is the improvement of clinical islet transplantation protocols.
